Market at The Palms, Woodstock. If you feel like attending a nice market on a Saturday morning, head down to Woodstock and find a unique gem of a market at The Palms lifestyle and décor centre. The building, built in 1925 as far as I can establish, is an ideal setting for a market and creates a great atmosphere. The floor between the shops of the centre is filled with more than 40 traders showcasing their wares. It reminds me of the good old days of trading in the village square. While wandering between the stalls tasting all the delicious food, you can listen to live music provided by outstanding artists. One of them ended up in the top 5 of the recent idols competition. Except for the amazing food on offer there are also spices, dried fruits and nuts, craft beers and wines for sale. Some of the stalls you will find are Darling Gourmet Mushrooms, Kurt’s Meat Deli, Stonehill Olives and Eureka Bread Mills. In between you can also visit all the shops the centre has to offer. The market is on every Saturday between 9h00 and 14h00. Entrance to the centre is free and there are more than 300 covered parking bays. Once you have been to this market you will go back again. The Palms Centre, Main Road Woodstock.

Slots Jackie, John, Stephen and Alan attended the re-launch of the Rotaract Club of Steenberg. It was reported that this was a lovely evening. Alan will be the representative from our club.

Jackpot Regrettably the committee decided to skip the swindle this week due to reasons no-one knows.

President’s quotes Our president, Jackie’s quote for the week came from Confucius: “ Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated”

GUEST SPEAKER : Dennis introduced Dr.J. Balavenkatasubramanianis a consultant at Ganga Medical Centre & Hospitals, Coimbatore, specialising in Anesthesiology as our guest speaker. Dr. Balavenkatasubramanianis said the GSE South Africa team that was sent to India made a lasting impression. He believes the strong connection between India and SA is grounded in the shared philosophy of both Nelson Mandela and Mahatmas Gandhi that conflict can be resolved peacefully. Dr. Balavenkatasubramanianis attributes all the accomplishments in his life to his association with Rotary. Being a member of Rotary from his teenage years has helped him being moulded in the person he has become. He is optimistic about life’s opportunities and shared his experiences and optimism about the future of India with us.

TAILPIECE “There are three kinds of men. The ones that learn by readin’. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.” — Will Rogers, author, comedian, cowboy.

(The rest of them in South Africa may have to pee on the electric fence a few times to figure out their load shedding schedules.)
