Linda Wilson, founder of Pocket Money Market, shared her journey of transforming a personal mission into a community initiative during her recent talk. Inspired by her daughter’s need to learn financial literacy at age seven, Wilson launched the project two years prior, creating a platform where children aged three to sixteen can sell handmade goods at monthly workshops and markets across Cape Town. “Earn, learn and have fun” encapsulates her vision, blending education with entrepreneurship. The initiative, which began in her garage, now hosts events at locations such as Cape Vineyards and Behind Rodgers in Kommetjie, fostering creativity and practical skills in young participants.
Wilson’s background as a former Rotaractor and Interactor, coupled with her experience in the finance industry, informed her approach to the project. She emphasized the importance of
